New Camera!

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 § 2

I got a new camera for Christmas! A Canon Rebel XSi! I love it, and hopefully the pictures that I take will get better too!

This is me right before I went sledding with my little brother, and this is a picture I took goofing around with the spider-plant in my room (which I planted during 3rd grade science class).

(1 of 1)-3

And for good measure here’s another picture of the angel figurine I posted about back in September. I was chatting with a friend online and she challenged me to go take a picture right then (around 10pm), edit it and post it online. I rigged up my desk lamp for lighting and I really like the way it turned out even though there’s some noise (it’s from my old camera).

I hope everyone has a fantastic new years eve and a great new years!

Double Exposure

Friday, December 11, 2009 § 2

I took these two photos over the summer, and today I overlaid them to make them into a sort of faux double exposure (two images taken on the same piece of film) using photoshop. I really liked the two photos, but they were both pretty boring individually.

Now that they’re combined, I feel like there’s a cool sense of movement in the photo which wasn’t there before. Then I added a vignette to the edges to give it even more of a film feel.

I’m thinking about submitting this to my school’s literary and photo magazine, but I feel like it might seem a little weird, thoughts? Any critiques or comments are always welcome.

On an unrelated note, only one week until winter break =].

I’ve kind of started freaking out over college again. It’s not super rational, cause I’m not even going to be applying to colleges until a little less than a year from now.

Instead of spending time focusing on my homework I’ve been obsessing over college websites, reading all about admission, their academic programs and their campuses. These sites are crazy overwhelming, and increase my stress levels rather than decrease them.

While I’m pretty much totally overwhelmed, I feel like I’ve come to some sort of idea of what I want to major in/do.

At this point in time, I’m planning on applying to business schools. I’m especially interested in programs with an international component, and I think it’s cool that a lot of schools are offering majors or minors in “international business”.

While I’ve changed my career goals a lot, I feel like I’ve finally decided on something that I’d like to do. In chemistry last year, we had projects where we had to “be” a company and pitch our “product” to our “teacher”. While I didn’t enjoy the chemical aspect of that, I loved the business part. I liked working on the presentations and presenting them. I loved working collaboratively with others to achieve a goal.

While I think I’ve figured out what I want to do, I still have to get accepted.

(Hey UPenn and NYU…let me in please?)

And even if I get in, I have to figure out a way to pay for it somehow, but I’m doing my best to try and stay positive.

I haven’t updated in over a month!

I’ve been crazy busy at school, and I haven’t had time for much else.

Here’s another picture I took that I like. I wish it was focused right though.

Fall Part 2

New Picture

Saturday, September 5, 2009 § 0

Took this on my bedroom floor. It’s a figurine that my relatives from Germany gave to me.

On a side note, when I asking if my friend had seen the previous picture I’d posted, she said, “The one with your finger in it?”. I replied, “No, it’s the top of my desk lamp.” “Oh, she said, that makes more sense.” So for the record, it’s a desk lamp, not my finger.

As always, comments are appreciated =].

Math HW

Tuesday, September 1, 2009 § 0

I took this picture at my desk “doing” my math homework.

Any comments would be great.

School starts tomorrow. I have to be there at 6:40 in the morning for an “early-bird” gym class. I’m not very excited.

Friday, August 14, 2009 § 0

I was online today and I came across this link to photos of Pakistan taken by Emilio Morenatti. These photos are completely awe inspiring. They’re the best example of photo-journalism I’ve seen in a while, and I strongly recommend you check them out.

New Look

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 § 1

I’ve got a new look for my blog, it’d be awesome if you’d tell me what you think in the comments.

Chocolate Coated Espresso Beans

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 § 0

I went to Borders today to buy a couple books. After checking out, someone who worked there offered me a free sample of chocolate coated espresso beans. They were really good.

Too bad caffeine gives me a headache.

Also, I was messing around with templates and the sites a little messed up for now.

Hilton Head

Sunday, August 2, 2009 § 0

This is one of my favorite pictures of the trip.

I’ll definitely post some more later, so check back soon. Any feedback for this picture would be awesome.

Saturday, August 1, 2009 § 0

I haven’t posted in a while…

I finally got home after an 18 hour car ride from Hilton Head South Carolina.

I’m really happy to be home.

I’ll probably post some pictures tomorrow.

School is finally over. =]

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 § 0

I’m pretty much stressed out right now. But school is almost over, this is the last week before finals, and then I’m DONE for the summer.

Not sure if I mentioned that I got a job, but I’m now an instructor at Kumon Math and Reading Center! I started working a couple weeks ago, and I think I’ve decided to save up money for a new camera, probably this one.

Walk to School

Thursday, May 21, 2009 § 3

Today, cause of scheduling issues, I didn’t have to go to school until 11:00, but because both my parents work, I had to walk the slightly more than two miles to my high school. It was (and still is) really nice out, so the walk wasn’t a chore at all.

Here’s a picture from the walk.

On a happier note, there’s also this.

Glencoe Beach

Sunday, May 17, 2009 § 2

I went to the beach with Callie, my dog today. There were a ton of other dogs there, and we both had a lot of fun.

AP Test

Saturday, May 16, 2009 § 0

On Thursday morning I took my ap world test.

It wasn’t that much fun.

The multiple choice part was okay, I don’t have a problem with multiple choice tests, I could pretty much do them all day (not really, but whatever).

The essays sucked though. They were on really random topics, and we had to write three of them.

One was on about change and continuity on the silk roads from 150BCE to 1450CE. That’s pretty much the vaguest question ever, but almost made it harder.

The compare and contrast essay was about racial ideologies (I’m not even sure I understood what that meant) and their effect on society in North America and Latin America. What?!?

I’d tell you about the multiple choice questions but I’m not allowed to talk about them. Ever. My score would become invalidated (gasp). It was crazy, after we took that part of the test they made us reseal the booklets.

I’m just glad its over.

Happy Mothers Day!

If there are any moms who read my blog, happy mothers day!

Everybody else, make sure your mom has a fantastic day!

Summer Job

Wednesday, May 6, 2009 § 0

Lately, I’ve been looking for a summer job. I don’t have that much planned this summer, just a summer school class (computer-aided drafting) for an applied arts credit and possibly a vacation sometime later.

With all my free time, I figured I might as well make some money too, so I started looking. I applied to a couple places, but I haven’t heard back yet.

A couple days ago my friend messaged me about a job opening at the place she worked, where she packages stationary for Pen at Hand, a online stationary store, in the owner’s living room.

I was excited, because she said if she recommended me, I would get the job.

The next day, after talking to her boss, she told me that the job didn’t work out. I was a little disappointed, but okay, so I asked her why?

She said that she told the owner about me and she (the owner) said, “Oh, I don’t hire boys, I like to keep this a girl’s club, but don’t report me or anything.”

I was shocked. That’s blatantly sexist and illegal, and it appears the owner knows and doesn’t care. I don’t want to make a huge deal about this as it’s just a summer job, and I wouldn’t want to work for a person who hires like that anyway, but its still kind of pathetic that this issue still exists.

Cinderella Video Montage

AP Test

Sunday, May 3, 2009 § 0

Coming up on May 16 (four days before my birthday)I’ve got the AP test for World History. I’ve barely started studying.

Yesterday, I drove to Borders and bought a review book, brought it home and started reading it. I read through everything up until it started reviewing information, then I stopped.

Its gonna be a fun two weeks =].

(special student director shout out to Julia Ring!)

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 § 0

So I haven’t updated my blog for a while, mostly because I’ve been busy with the Spring play.

Ironically, everybody in the cast found out about the blog and it became a running joke, (hey guys). That also explains the below post in case you were wondering.

Pictures soon though, I promise =].

Lake Geneva

Saturday, April 4, 2009 § 0

During spring break, my family went up to Lake Geneva where we have a condo. I brought my camera with, and here are a few of my favorite pictures.

Spring Break

Thursday, March 26, 2009 § 0

Spring break starts tomorrow, and I’m super excited.

I’m not even going anywhere. I’m really looking forward to sitting on my couch, catching up on all the tv I’ve been missing due to school, and spending sometime with my friends.

Unfortunately, I still have one more day of school tomorrow, and I’ve transitioned into “break mode” one day too early. Jane Eyre will have to wait.

On the note of tv, here’s another show I recommend you watch, it’s called, “Kings” and it’s on nbc. There’s a new episode every Sunday, but if you want to start from the beginning you can stream the shows online at (which is what I did earlier today).

Its about a modern day “kingdom” (duh) set in a new york like setting. It sounds slightly cheesy, but its interesting, and raises some interesting issues while being entertaining. It also draws loads of allusions to the bible (specifically King David) which is interesting even if you’re not religious (like me).

I probably butchered that explanation so please check out the plot summary on

On another note, if you haven’t heard of, you really need to check it out. It streams tons of shows (the office, 30 rock, heroes, bones) for free, with only a couple minor commercials.

I've got to go finish my homework now, to everyone in my school, have a fantastic break!

Busy Week

Sunday, March 22, 2009 § 0

Right now, its 11:38 on a Sunday night. I should be sleeping right now, but I’m not.

This week is going to be super busy for me. Its the week before spring break so a lot of teachers are cramming in tests and projects.

I’ve also got play practice (cinderella, I’ll talk more about it later) every night and gso (glenbrook symphony orchestra) rehearsal on monday night and our concert is on wednesday.

So right now, I’m just trying to relax while I can, because once I wake up tomorrow morning I’m in for a hectic week.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 § 1

Today, during my English class, we were having a discussion about gender roles in Jane Eyre (which I should be reading right now)

On the board, my teacher made a ven diagram with a woman side, man side, and the place in the middle. (We all thought this was funny) One of the kid’s in my class, changed the “a” in Woman to a “y”. This is because the standard “woman” has man in it, and that shows that woman is dependent on man to define it. (at least that’s what I got from it). This is according to some feminist philosopher who’s name I can’t remember. But, moving on, our English teacher challenged us to create a “meme” out of this. A meme is a “a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes.” According to I thought this was interesting, feel free to do with it whatever you want.

Online Shopping

Tuesday, March 17, 2009 § 0

Online shopping is something I do when I’m bored and or procrastinating doing homework. I do this along with facebook stalking, blog reading, blog writing in my free time.

One of the blogs I read posts a “Good Deals” section every day. One of them was about a sale going on at a t-shirt site,*. It’s a really cool site, people submit designs, more people (you and me) vote on them, and every week the site founders pick some to print, paying the designer in the process.

There are some really cool designs. So when I got home from play practice today (I’ll talk about that later) I saw the “deal” and it was for a spring cleaning going on at* with t-shirts going for 5$ (and 10$ and 15$ but it’s the 5$ that caught my eye). So I head over to the site, and twenty minutes later, I’m out about 22$ (3 t-shirts plus shipping and tax).

Here they are:

*These are my “specific” links, where if you buy something I get a three dollar credit for my next purchase. If that skeeves you out here’s a normal link.

More Disney

Tuesday, March 10, 2009 § 0

So, I’m a little bored right now (actually, procrastinating) so I’m gonna post some more disney pics.

I got this pin for donating 47 cents to the Wild life conservation fund. Some would call me a saint.

Me in our hotel room. I’m not entirely sure what was going on.

I just think that this photo’s really pretty.

Kittens Inspired By Kittens

So normally I’m not a big youtube watcher, but someone gave me a link to this and it’s hilarious.

Disney World

§ 1

So like I said in my previous post, I went to Disney World with my orchestra and had a blast. I also said I’d post some pictures, so here goes.

(I’m not sure how my friends would feel about me posting pictures of them on the internet, so these are gonna be just of me or just the park)

These are all I’m gonna post for now, If I’m bored I’ll post some more later.

Have a good rest of your weekend everybody!

§ 0

In the past month, I’ve been a lot more interested in cooking and baking then I have before. I’ve made a couple pasta recipes before, so for lunch today I tried making one free hand.

Basically I cooked 1/3 pound of pasta (linguine), then in a pan cooked two tablespoons olive oil, one clove chopped garlic, a small tomato, some red pepper flakes, a chunk of chopped onion and some salt.

I mixed in the cooked pasta, grated some parmesan  cheese on top and got this:

Right after I took this and showed it to my dad he said I should have used a different colored plate to make the colors pop, but I think you get the idea.

It was fun to make, and it was ok, but it definitely wasn’t the best pasta I’ve ever had. It was fun to make, but I think I’ll stick to recipes for at least a couple more times.

Disney World!

Tuesday, March 3, 2009 § 0

Last thursday, at five in the morning I went with orchestra (superrrr cool right?) to disney world for a “tour”. Really, we spent half one of the days playing, and the other 4 1/2 we spent roaming around the parks.

It was pretty awesome.

But now I’m tired. A little sunburned. And I still have a lot of homework to do. I’ll post some pictures later. I took 702. Seriously.

Monday, February 16, 2009 § 0

Like I said in the previous post, my laptop power adapter broke. Without having a laptop to suck my time away, I've gotten a lot more done. I took a ton of pictures and edited them, read close to three books, watched more tv, and done all my homework before seven.

A couple of hours ago I placed the order for another power adapter. I can wave my new found productivity good bye. But I'll probably write more blog posts.

More Photography

Sunday, February 15, 2009 § 0

On Friday my laptop adapter broke. I’m writing this from my parents computer. I spend a lot of time on my laptop, and without it, I was a little bored. I decided to grab my camera, go around my house and backyard and take pictures of random things. It was actually pretty fun, and I think a lot of the shots turned out pretty well.

Later, I took my dog into the backyard and got some shots from her using the burst photography feature on my camera.

Random Photo of the Day

Thursday, February 12, 2009 § 0

This has been in my bathroom since the beginning of winter. I think it’s creepy.

The Weather Part Two

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 § 0

Well, the warmth is gone. Great.

The Weather

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 § 0

It was absolutely gorgeous outside today. Right now I’m sitting in my room with the windows wide open. It’s 60 degrees and sunny outside, which is boiling considering how cold this winter has been.

I purposely started walking to the bus stop early this morning; the weather just put me in a great mood for the rest of the day.

I hope that this warmth will last a little while longer.

Sunday, February 8, 2009 § 1

So I started watching this show about two weeks ago, when one of my friends recommended it to me. It’s a crime fighting show, where one of the main characters is a forensic anthropologist and the other is an FBI agent. They work together to help solve murders. There’s something about this show that appeals to me, which is weird, cause I haven’t liked shows like CSI in the past. I think it’s something to do with the characters and their interactions that really makes it interesting. In that way, it reminds of the show, The Big Bang Theory, that also shows “geeks” interacting with other people.

I’ve been slowly working my way through the seasons (there are four of them now) and I’m kind of addicted. At least they’ll run out soon =]. But if you need some more tv to watch, check this show out.

Saturday, February 7, 2009 § 1

Kids at our school took the plan test like a month ago. It’s basically a practice test for the ACT, which also gives you some suggestions on what career you’d be well suited for.

On the test, there was a section where you check a box if you want colleges to be able to contact you. I did, and now I’ve been getting close to ten emails everyday. At first, I thought it was really obnoxious, but now I think it’s actually pretty cool. It’s getting me really excited about college.

I’ve gotten emails from NYU, Rice University, Columbia and Stanford.

I know that they send these emails out to loads of people, but it’s still exciting, and my interest is definitely piqued.

Second Semester Slump

§ 0

Last week end everyone at my school got their report cards. I did well, better than I thought I would. It felt good to see all of my hard work pay off, and I was happy.

But this week, I felt so little motivation. All I wanted to do was lay on my bed and watch Bones, a tv show that I became recently obsessed with.

I just feel tired. The same thing happened last year, and my grades went down, not a lot, but enough.

I need something to kick start my motivation again.

Thursday, January 22, 2009 § 0

So here goes.

My first blog post. Though technically, it's not. I've got another blog for school, but I made this one for personal stuff, random stuff I just wanna talk about, and hopefully share it with some other people as well.

Moving on,

I want to write this first post about photography. I really only started taking pictures this summer, when I went on vacation to Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. I think there's something about those places that really made me want to take pictures and document the experience. With a new camera (a fairly cheap point and shoot); I took over a thousand pictures taking up space in my hard drive. Some of them turned out pretty great.

But the problem is that after coming home I haven't taken nearly any photographs, which is really kind of sad. Instead I've been editing a lot of my photos from my vacation, which while rewarding in it's own way, isn't the same.

I've decided to start carrying my camera with me everywhere. One of the benefits of a point and shoot is how small it is. I can easily slide it into my pocket.

Hopefully this will spark the creativity in me (yay for cliches =]).
